Body found inside burned car in Randolph Co. identified as US Marine vet

RANDOLPH COUNTY, N.C. — A body found inside a burned vehicle in Randolph County has been identified, officials say Thursday.

The victim was identified as Jason Dean Malone, 37, of Asheboro.

Malone’s body was found inside a burned car off Iron Mountain Road near U.S 64 around 12:40 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 31.

Malone served in the U.S. Marine Corp. and in Afghanistan until he was honorably discharged in 2011.

According to the Medical Examiner’s Office, Malone died of a single gunshot wound. No foul play is suspected, deputies say.
