WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. — A man has died after being shot multiple times Sunday morning in Winston-Salem and charges have been upgraded to murder for the man accused of shooting him.

Crouch was slumped over the driver’s seat of a 2014 Toyota Camry and was suffering from multiple gunshot wounds.

He was transported to Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center where he succumbed to his injuries on Tuesday.

Cary Dewayne Crowder, 22, of Winston-Salem had been charged with first-degree murder in connection with Crowder’s death.

Police say Crowder arrived at a hospital in Greensboro just after 6 a.m. Sunday seeking treatment for a gunshot wound. Greensboro and Winston-Salem police determined that Crowder’s injuries were related to the incident on Charles Street.

Crowder has been released from medical care and is currently being held in the Forsyth County Detention Center under no bond. He is scheduled to appear in court Oct. 16.

Investigators have determined that Crouch and Crowder were acquaintances and this incident was not a random act.

An investigation is ongoing.
