Neighbors say missing girl freed herself from kidnappers

Topeka, Kan. — Topeka Police arrested two suspects in connection with the missing 8-year-old Topeka girl who has been found, WIBW reported.

Saturday night, Topeka Police blocked off the 2600 block of Southeast Ohio and Southeast Pioneer Way in attempt to find answers.

Neighbors tell 13 News that Samara was at her grandmother’s house before she went missing.

Patricia Glidewell told 13 News she heard a report of a missing girl and then she saw a young girl walking outside by herself.

“I realized that that right there was the missing child,” says Glidewell.

Glidewell asked her if she was lost. Then, Samara shared what happened. Glidewell says Samara told her she escaped from a vacant house at 25th and Ohio.

“They went in through a broken window, they tied her up, and she got herself untied,” says Glidewell.

Got herself untied and then looked for help-Glidewell says police picked her up here and then she was taken to the hospital.

“She had scratches on the back of her neck, and on her face, she looked like somebody had hit her,” says Glidewell.

Saturday night, Topeka Police arrested two suspects, 28-year-old Jeremy J. Lindsey and 23-year-old Michelle L. Harris for aggravated kidnapping and aggravating child endangerment.

13 News spoke with Samara’s mother, Michelle Herrera. She told 13 News she didn’t know Lindsey or Harris and she never thought this would ever happen to her daughter.

” I feel like she saved herself! I’m just so grateful she is okay. I feel like this could have ended up bad,” says Glidewell.

Samara’s mother told 13 News Samara is still in the hospital, but she did not tell 13 News her condition.

Major Jerry Stanley told 13 News an Amber Alert was not issued because the case did not meet the criteria required for KBI to issue an Amber Alert.

Lindsey was also booked for aggravated burglary and a parole violation warrant.
