NC man mistakes friend for deer, kills him with arrow

TRANSYLVANIA COUNTY, N.C. — A Pisgah Forest man is dead after his friend mistook him for a deer while they were hunting and shot him with an arrow Thursday, according to WYFF.

Deputies were called to an area off Lyda Creek Road at about 7:45 p.m. about a hunting accident.

George Harley Case Jr., 58, was found dead at the scene. His hunting partner said he mistook Case for a deer and shot him with an arrow.

The death is being investigated by the Transylvania County Sheriff’s Office and the North Carolina Wildlife Resources Commission.

An autopsy was scheduled Friday in Winston-Salem.
