Child dies at hospital after being pulled from pond in High Point last week

HIGH POINT, N.C. — A child has died from complications of a near drowning after being pulled from a retention pond last week in High Point, police confirmed Monday.

The 2-year-old child died Saturday at Brenner Children’s Hospital in Winston-Salem.

His identity has not been released.

Emergency crews responded to the near drowning at the Copper Mill Village apartment complex 3741 Bracknell Drive at 5:09 p.m. Thursday.

The victim was reportedly in a retention pond at the apartment complex. Firefighters believe the boy fell in after chasing a ball.
