QUEENS, N.Y. — A phony cab driver who tried to rape a mother and attack her young children was arrested in Queens Friday morning.

WPIX reported that Pedro Vargas, 48, of Yonkers, was posing as taxi cab driver when he picked up a  26-year-old woman and her children — ages 1, 3, and 5 — about 2:45 a.m. Wednesday in Manhattan.

When they arrived at their destination in Queens, the driver was caught on camera attacking the woman. It was reported that the man was trying to sexually assault her.

Police later released a sketch and asked for the public’s help to find the suspect, who was described as having an earring in his right ear and manicured eyebrows.

It was not immediately known what led to Vargas’ arrest.

Vargas faces several charges including one misdemeanor count and two felony counts of assault and three counts of endangering the life of a child. Sexual assault charges are pending.
