GREER, S.C. — A pit bull attacked and broke the arms of a 6-year-old boy walking home after school Thursday, reported WHNS.

The boy was taking a shortcut through a backyard where the dog, named Bones, was chained, authorities said.

The boy, who had just gotten off the bus when he was bitten, was rushed to the hospital. He had emergency surgery because the bites were so severe his arms were broken in three places.

The dog’s owner said she bought Bones via Craigslist in the spring but hadn’t taken him to a veterinarian, so she did not have any paperwork or vaccination information.

Animal Control cited the owner with dangerous dog, inoculation required and failure to obtain a city license.
