Police searching for NC man accused of sexually abusing young girl

Nathan Lynn Cooley, 28, of Spring Lake

SPRING LAKE, N.C. — Police are searching for a North Carolina man accused of kidnapping and sexually assaulting an 11-year-old girl.

WTVD-TV reported that 28-year-old Nathan Lynn Cooley allegedly told the girl in Spring Lake that he was a police officer and needed help finding his dog.

Police said the girl got into his car and the suspect drove her to a wooded area and sexually assaulted her. He then dropped her off at a park near her home, according to police.

Cooley is a registered sex offender and has been convicted of child sexual assault crimes in the past.

In those cases, the victims were 13 and 15 years old. He was an adult during both convictions.

Cooley is about 5′ 11″ and weighs around 260 pounds. He has blue eyes and a bald head. He was last seen operating a beige older model Ford Taurus.
