NC man charged with DWI after crashing into school bus with children

NEW HANOVER COUNTY, N.C. – A North Carolina man was charged with driving while impaired after authorities said he hit a school bus with children head-on.

WECT-TV reported that Robert Philip Carroll, 38, of Wilmington, has been charged with DWI and careless and reckless driving.

Officials said the crash happened around 7:45 a.m. Tuesday near an intersection in Wilmington.

The suspect is accused of swerving across the center line and hitting the front of the bus, which was carrying eight students.

One student was taken to the hospital for minor injuries and is expected to be okay, according to authorities.

The suspect had a 0.13 blood alcohol level, which is well above the legal limit of 0.08, according to WWAY.

Carroll was reportedly released from jail on a $10,000 secured bond and has court planned for Nov. 16.
