Miss Babe Ruth returns to Hoppers’ field after surgery
GREENSBORO, N.C. — The furry face of the Greensboro Grasshoppers franchise has whiskers, soulful brown eyes and a cold, wet nose.
As the News & Record reports, for two long days last week, that face was miserable, framed by a 15-inch funnel covering the black Labrador retriever’s head.
Miss Babe Ruth was hurt. On the 15-day disabled list after ear surgery. Her 575 consecutive home games streak as the Greensboro Grasshoppers’ bat-dog in real jeopardy.
But once the cone came off her head, all was right with the world.
And there she was Tuesday night at NewBridge Bank Park, trotting onto the field at the end of the first inning, a bucket of new baseballs clamped in her mouth to be delivered to home-plate umpire Kyle Wallace.
