‘Cops’ crew member shot while filming armed robbery has died

OMAHA, Neb. — A worker on the television crime show Cops was shot by police on Tuesday night while filming an armed robbery and later died, according to WOWT.

Deputy Chief David Baker of the Omaha Police Department said the incident took place at a Wendy’s restaurant around 9:20 p.m Tuesday.

The crew member, an audio technician, sustained critical injuries in the shooting on Tuesday and died on Wednesday morning. Police said he was struck by bullets fired by police.

The victim has not been identified.

The suspect held a clerk at gunpoint and demanded cash before walking outside to find police waiting. During the confrontation, shots were exchanged and the suspect died as a result of wounds sustained in the shooting.

More than 30 shots were fired during the incident, according to WOWT.
