DAVIDSON COUNTY, N.C. — Authorities said a van carrying seven special-needs children crashed into a home Sunday morning in Davidson County.

Officials said it happened at around 11 a.m. at a house at 7138 Ridge Road in Midway.

The driver apparently turned onto Clodfelter Road from Ridge Road and was going too fast. Officials said the driver went off the road and into the home.

Eight people were on the bus, including the driver. One of the passengers had a minor injury, but there were no serious injuries, according to authorities.

The house was unoccupied at the time, according to officials. The homeowner and his girlfriend were reportedly at church.

Dave Kovack owns the home. He said his girlfriend randomly came to church with him on Sunday, and if she hadn’t, she would have been sitting right where the van hit.

Structural damage to the home was estimated at around $40,000 to $50,000.
