Cam Newton has fractured rib, won’t play this week
CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Carolina Panthers quarterback Cam Newton has a fractured rib and will not play in Thursday’s preseason finale at Pittsburgh, according to ESPN.com.
Newton suffered a hairline fracture to a rib during Friday night’s loss at New England, according to the website.
Panthers Coach Ron Rivera said he is optimistic that Newton will be able to play in the opener at Tampa Bay on Sept. 7.
