CARY, N.C. — A manhunt is underway for whoever pulled the trigger and killed a woman Friday night in Cary.

Cary police told WTVD-TV that the victim was 58-year-old Wendy Johnson, from Sanford. They responded to a call of shots fired Friday night around 11 p.m. at 202 Hyde Park Court.

When they arrived, they found Johnson had been shot. She was rushed to Duke University Medical Center but did not survive.

Residents in the apartments on Hyde Park Court tell ABC11 that Johnson was a nurse, and she was there to help a family with a sick child overnight. A woman who did not want to be identified said she heard the gunshot and called 911.

Then she saw Johnson, visibly hurt, stumble from the passenger side of her car before she collapsed onto the pavement.
