Police say shooting that killed NC 2-year-old was retaliation for earlier shooting

WELDON, N.C — Police say that the shooting death of a two-year-old in Weldon earlier this month was in retaliation for another shooting that happened just hours earlier.

On Friday, four men were charged with murder after Dyana Anderson, 2, who was shot in the face around 12:30 a.m. Aug. 5, at her home on Cedar Street.

The shootings also injured the girl’s grandmother. The 54-year-old Catherine Price, was listed in fair condition last week after being shot seven times in her head and lower body.

Jamonte Lamoncion Moody, 19, Semajs Short, 17, William David Cook, 21, and Victor Mallory, 21, are each charged with first degree murder and attempted first-degree murder, Weldon Police Chief Mark Macon said Friday.

On Aug. 5, Weldon police were called to the 600-block of Cedar Street around midnight after shots were fired into a home.

Dyana’s mother, Tamyra Anderson, told WTVD that she does not personally know any of the suspects.

Dyana’s uncle, Teddy Anderson Jr., is wanted in the shooting death of 15-year-old Keyuon Garner, who was shot just hours earlier.

Weldon police say Garner’s death spawned the murder of Dyana . Garner’s family held a funeral service for the teen Friday in Weldon.

Halifax County deputies say he was shot and killed less than a mile from where Dyana lived.
