LEXINGTON, N.C. — Students at the Yadkin Valley Regional Career Academy think their campus needs a little sprucing up, so they’re taking matters into their own hands.
Teams of students designed beautification projects for the school, like adding an herb garden, painting benches and inspirational posters. They presented the ideas to school officials and professionals to get advice on how to make the construction run smoothly.
Sophomore Neda Kim says this will not only make the school more beautiful, but give them ownership of their campus, which they moved into in 2012.
“The school has been here since the 1930s,” Kim said. “And I thought it would be really creative if we like came up with something ourselves and it’s more original because the school building is just plain Jane and we wanted to spice it up.”
Construction on the various projects will begin Monday and should take several days. The projects will be funded by grants and private donations.
