The New York Times has created a chart that shows how Americans have moved between states since 1900.

In 1910, 95 percent of people living in North Carolina were born there. In 2012, only 58 percent of people in the Tar Heel state were actually born in North Carolina.

The chart also shows that in previous years, people born in Virginia and South Carolina were among the larger groups in North Carolina.

But now, people born in New York are more likely to live in North Carolina.

“As recently as 1980, 76 percent of residents were natives, and the next-largest source of state residents was South Carolina,” according to the article. “Today, there are twice as many North Carolina residents born in New York as were born in South Carolina.”
