SLIDELL, La. — A Louisiana woman is facing Medicaid fraud charges after checking into a local hospital under her deceased sister’s name — while wearing a T-shirt commemorating her sister’s death.

WVUE reports that on Aug. 5, police responded to Slidell Memorial Hospital after 26-year-old Diondre Jones checked in under the name of Delores Jones. She gave Delores’ date of birth and social security number.

Jones was treated, but when they entered the name she had given — Delores Jones — an error popped up saying, “Date of Death Precedes Date of Service.”

By the time hospital staff saw the error, Jones had left the hospital but was stopped in the parking lot by a Slidell police officer.

After being questioned by the officer, Jones gave her real name. The officer asked her why she provided the hospital with the wrong name and information and she pointed to her T-shirt, saying, “They must have gotten the name from this shirt.”

Jones was booked with one count of Medicaid fraud and also had an outstanding attachment for failure to appear in court from a previous arrest.
