GASTON COUNTY, N.C. — A former wrestling coach convicted of molesting three of his players will spend at least 34 years in prison, according to WSOC.

The jury announced its verdict Tuesday, finding Scott Goins guilty of 17 of the 20 charges against him.

His wife addressed the court, saying it will be very hard to raise their children alone.

During the sentencing hearing, the judge decided that Goins will serve at least 34 years and 10 months in prison before he will be eligible for release.

Goins is accused of sexually abusing three students while they were wrestlers at East Gaston High School. One of the victims also addressed the court and said he’s sorry he didn’t come forth sooner.

This was a teacher as well as a wrestling coach. He resigned only after being charged. This is not the only pedophile scandal at this school. See Bradford Murkey story. We are still waiting for all of those who were over this school at the time and those who the DA said covered it up to be charged. How can anyone trust this school system when one of the Principals during this time frame at the school is not even being mentioned? Is it because he is a prominent figure who is running for school board? Seems that only those who have left the district and education scene are being blamed. Murkey is reported to be the step-son of the former Principal, Lee Dedmon. Even Joe Paterno and people at Penn State had to pay for their cover up of Sandusky. If anything is to be learned from that case it is to report suspected abuse to criminal authorities not just school administration. It is their job plus there is a record to protect yourself from charges.
