WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. — Existing-home sales in the Forsyth County area fell 6.9 percent in June over the same period in 2013, the Winston-Salem Regional Association of Realtors reported Friday, according to the Winston-Salem Journal.
The number of homes sold in June was 608 compared with 653 in June 2013. But sales rose 8.6 percent in June from 560 in May this year.
The statistics are based on numbers from the Triad Multiple Listing Service.
The average sales price rose 5 percent in June to $176,745, compared with $168,302 in June 2013. The average sales price fell 5.7 percent in June from $187,386 in May 2014.
“We are pleased that the summer sales pace continues to be strong,” said Glenn Cobb, chief staff executive for the Winston-Salem Regional Association of Realtors. “Pending home sales have remained at solid levels through July, so we anticipate another good summer of existing home sales in our market. We would categorize our current sales pace as sustainable for the near term.”
Commenting on the drop in the June year-over-year numbers, Cobb said that the Forsyth County area has had less inventory this summer compared with the same period in 2013.
“As this more active pace continues, but new inventory is not coming on the market, we will see the pace more like where we are in 2014 versus 2012 and 2013,” Cobb said.
He said that new home construction appears to be relatively slow, “which means current home owners are not selling and moving.”
So far, Weichert, Realtors-Triad Associates in Winston-Salem has had its busiest year since 2006, said David Helms, the company’s vice president.
He said that the company’s sales were up in June over June 2013, but were down slightly in June from May of this year because of the vacation season.
“But we’ve been fairly busy without interruption throughout the summer season,” Helms said.
He hopes that “it’s going to stay summer all the way through December.”
