Second person charged in murder of teen in Halifax Co. shootings
WELDON, N.C. — One man is in custody in the murder of 15-year-old Keyuon T. Garner and another suspect has been identified, police say.
Halifax County Sheriff Wes Tripp said at a news conference Thursday afternoon that 19-year-old Samaj-Tojuan Clanton is charged with murder and two counts of attempted murder.
Deputies are now looking for Teddy Keith Anderson Jr., 18, of Weldon.
The shooting happened at 9:30 p.m. in the area near 11th and Maple streets outside the town of Weldon.
Deputies say the teen was walking with a group when two men came out of a wooded area and started shooting.
Garner was killed and 20-year-old Calvin Robinson was shot in the back. Wilson Green, 17, was shot in the leg.
A motive was not mentioned, but police say “other arrests of other individuals are expected.”
Garner’s murder was one of two shootings in the Weldon area that night.
Another shooting was reported around 12:30 a.m. in the 600 block of Cedar Street after shots were fired into a home that was less than a mile away from the first scene.
A 2-year-old girl, later identified by family members as Dyana Anderson, was killed. The girl’s 54-year-old grandmother, Katherine Price, was also injured.
Sheriff Tripp said Thursday he believes the two shootings are related.
Anyone with information on Anderson’s whereabouts is urged to contact the Halifax County Sheriff’s Office at (252) 583-8201, Halifax County Crime Stoppers at 252-583-4444, or the Weldon Police Department at 252-536-3136.
