SMITHTOWN, N.Y. — An off-duty police officer accidentally discharged his weapon, injuring himself and his 3-year-old son, according to WPIX.

The shooting happened inside the family’s home around 7 p.m. Tuesday. According to WPIX, the boy was “grazed” by a bullet.

The 3-year-old was transported to a local hospital where he underwent surgery to remove the bullet from his body. The father was also treated at a local hospital.

Both the off-duty officer and the child are listed in stable condition.

WPIX said it appears the child was not playing with the gun when it discharged.

The off-duty officer has not been identified.

So when did they start removing bullets from someones body who was only ‘grazed’?

ant they want to keep firearms out of the hands of felons? sounds like to me they need to keep them out of the hands of law enforcement until they learn the safety of a firearm

Two were shot with one bullet? I wonder if the baby was in his lap or just crawling around on the floor while he was handling the gun? He probably dropped the gun and it discharged would be the only plausible explanation.
