MEBANE, N.C. -- The White Furniture Company building in Mebane has been vacant since 1994, but now, the city has given the final green light for D3 Development to transform the space into luxury apartments.

A spokesperson for D3 says the building will house 157 units, ranging in size from studios to three bedrooms, and ranging in price from around $750 to $1300.

Some Mebane residents say this is just what downtown needs.

"I think it'll be good because it'll bring more business to the downtown area," says Erin Shanklin, a lifelong Mebane resident. "It'll be a great place for apartments because it's right here in the community."

Construction is set to begin in November or December of this year. Apartments will be move-in ready about a year later, according to D3 Development.
