BAKERSFIELD, Calif. — Don and Maxine’s love for each other lasted a lifetime — up until the final four hours.
Don and Maxine Simpson, of Bakersfield, Calif., were married 62 years and recently died within four hours of each other, according to a report from KERO.
The couple met at a bowling alley dozens of years ago and went on to raise two boys and travel the world.
Two weeks ago, Don went to the hospital after he suffered a broken hip. His health quickly deteriorated and his family brought him home to be with his wife, who had been battling cancer for several years.
The family knew they couldn’t keep the two apart. So, they moved Don and Maxine to a spare bedroom where they could spend time together.
According to KERO, the couple spent their final hours together, holding hands and smiling. With family and friends by her side, Maxine passed away peacefully.
Four hours later, Don passed away.
