BURLINGTON, N.C. — A man is accused of masturbating in front of a Food Lion grocery store in Burlington.

Robert Lloyd May, 26, of Burlington, has been charged with one misdemeanor count of indecent exposure and one felony count of indecent exposure.

Police said it happened on Friday in front of the Food Lion at 1780 W. Webb Ave.

A female witness contacted police, saying she saw it as she was leaving the business in her car. The woman had her daughter and a child in her car, according to police.

The suspect has been charged with felony indecent exposure since it happened in the presence of a child, police said.

Police said the suspect ran off when he saw the witness contacting authorities who had arrived nearby.

The suspect was arrested and charged shortly later. No injuries were reported.

May was placed in the custody of the Alamance County Jail under a $200,000 bond.
