WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. — Winston-Salem police are searching for more leads as they investigate armed robberies that occurred last week at local Quality Inns and a third incident where robbers tried unsuccessfully to enter another Quality Inn.
Lt. Steven Tollie said police believe the three incidents are related since the method of operation was the same, according to the Winston-Salem Journal.
On July 23, two men entered the Quality Inn at 5719 University Parkway and threatened a clerk at about 2 a.m. They stole an undisclosed amount of money and robbed a hotel guest in the lobby. Both of the robbers had handguns.
Then on July 24, two subjects with bandanas covering their faces tried to enter the Quality Inn at 531 Akron Drive, but the doors were locked.
On July 25, a robber walked into the lobby of the Quality Inn at 2008 S. Hawthorne Road at about 2 a.m. and pointed a handgun at the clerk. The robber left with an undisclosed amount of money.
Police have released surveillance photos from the July 23 robbery in hopes that someone would recognize the men. Tollie said their faces were well covered, but one of the robbers was wearing a fairly distinctive white jacket with a large decal of some kind on the back.
“We hope someone may recognize it,” Tollie said.
Anyone with information about the incidents can call the Winston-Salem Police Department at 336-773-7700 or Crime Stoppers at 336-727-2800.
