WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. --  A fight almost broke out outside the federal courthouse in Winston-Salem Wednesday after the adoptive parents of missing teen Erica Parsons left their first court appearance.

Sandy and Casey Parsons shoved reporters, shouting for them to move as they got into their car.

Sandy and Casey Parsons are the adoptive parents of Erica Parsons, who was reported missing on July 30, 2013 by her adoptive brother. The teenager reportedly has not been seen since November 2011.

Each is being held on a $25,000 unsecured bond and have been placed under house arrest.

The couple was arrested Wednesday morning on federal fraud charges.

The 76-count criminal indictment was unsealed Wednesday following the couple’s arrest by FBI and IRS-CI agents in Fayetteville.

The indictment alleges that from February 2010 to August 2013, Sandy Parsons, 40, and Casey Parsons, 39, committed tax fraud, mail fraud, theft of government funds, identity theft and engaged in a conspiracy to defraud the government.

The Parsons are accused of receiving government funded adoption assistance, Medicaid, Social Security, and Food and Nutrition Services benefits for a dependent that did not live with them and used the mail to commit the fraud.

The indictment also alleges that Casey Parsons fraudulently used the identities of other people and used other false information when preparing federal tax returns.

Sandy and Casey Parsons are both charged with one count of conspiracy to defraud the government, 20 counts of theft of government funds and 20 counts of mail fraud.

Sandy Parsons is also charged with one count of aggravated identity theft and one count of false statement to a government agency.

Casey Parsons is charged with one count of false pretense in a health care matter, two counts of Social Security fraud, 15 counts of aggravated identity theft, two counts of false statement to a government agency, six counts of aiding in the preparation of a false tax return, six counts of wire fraud and one count of making false claim against the government.

The couple will appear in court at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday in U.S. District Court in Winston-Salem.

Seriously? We are not a third world country despite the Tea Party’s attempt to make it so…if this country truly is founded on Christianity, which it isn’t, I’m thinking your comment would certainly not be something that Jesus said or even thought.

Jacqui Hawkins (@HawkJ68) Tea party and third world country comparisons? If we could bring the conversation back down to earth for a minute…

Anyway, we might actually get to find out what happened to the missing child in this case since the authorities have them under charges. It’s question and answers time. Let’s play he/she who talks first wins. It stinks, but one of these monsters are going to walk as soon as they talk.

last saturday I got a gorgeous Mazda MX-5 after making $8194 this-past/month and-just over, ten thousand last-month . this is definitely the easiest work I have ever had . I actually started 7-months ago and practically straight away made myself at least $79 per-hour . see this

Looks like major fraud over several years. Hey, IRS, how about spending your time, resources and emails on people like this instead of using your power for political purposes?

If you are referring to the IRS investigation of Tea Party groups, that investigation is warranted. You asked for it. You take the name of your silly little populist movement from a tax revolt and show up at town hall meetings with assault rifles over your shoulder screaming about how you won’t pay taxes/taxes are unAmerican, well, what did you think would happen, genius? It’s like the kid who has pot leaf stickers all over his car and a vanity tag that says “Weed 420” crying about getting pulled over and searched. Except the kid has an excuse–he’s young and stupid, whereas the Tea Party is just stupid. Additionally, where was your ire and righteous indignation when Bush had the IRS investigate the NAACP, GreenPeace and Cindy Sheehan’s organization? I mean, if you hate the IRS, you can’t simply pick and choose when you get to hate them…

Wow!! Glad to hear it! Becaue way too many people are getting away with getting Food and Nutrition Services benefits and assistance for a dependent that did not live with them, no one ever checks and it keeps happening… daily!

I think this is the only way that they can get them legally. I’m sure they know what happen to the little girl but they police can’t find enough evidence. At least with this t here will be evidence and they will do some time.

    • JT

I think you are right. Though the analogy is not completely parallel, this is sort of what the FBI did with Capone. They couldn’t get him on murder, so they got him on tax evasion.

I am sure they will be home in time for their steak and lobster dinner that the taxpayer bought for them !!

    • seriously?

I sure hope not; we could put that money towards the drugs I hope we get to use for the execution of whichever one (or both) is proven to have harmed the child.

  • looky

There you go people I told you they would be home tonight if all those charges were levied at me i would be in the slam till trial date !

  • looky

76 charges 25k bond Unsecured they just sign a paper and walk out ! Sounds like they have something on the people we expect to lock these P_O_S_ up ! House arrest ? Look with there history they could all ready have false ID. and bank accounts ready to make a run !

How did they pay to get out with past welfare checks. So sad that they adopted this little girl who could have gone to a beautiful home with loving parents.
