CHARLOTTE, N.C. — The nation’s border crisis is now reaching Charlotte, according to WSOC-TV.

Hundreds of unaccompanied children are traveling thousands of miles and ending up in the Queen City, but many of them are sitting in limbo while judges decide their futures.Border crisis leaves undocumented children in Charlotte in limbo

Recently, a city-initiated Immigrant Integration Task Force discussed the issue of unaccompanied minors reaching the U.S. borders and making their way to Charlotte.

A change in policy in Charlotte has undocumented children now going through Charlotte’s Immigration Court where they can fill out an application, seeking asylum or face deportation.

A judge decides whether they can stay or if they have to go.

Charlotte’s immigration court has had 1,011 new juvenile cases this year. In 2013, there were 716 cases and in 2012, there were 410 cases. Because of the influx in cases, it is taking longer for them to be heard. Some children have had to wait up to a year before their first hearing.

In the meantime, they are released to legal guardians and try to blend in to society.

“They are becoming members of our community. They are being enrolled in school and they are making friends, going to the doctor,” said immigration attorney Benjamin Synder.

Snyder said most children go unrepresented in immigration court, which does not say a child is entitled to representation like a public defender.

“It’s almost inconceivable to navigate this whole legal process as a minor from another country,” said Snyder.

The plan to slow the stream of unaccompanied children into the United States is coming together in Washington.

After a closed-door meeting on Friday morning, Republican House members said the new plan is a scaled-back version of earlier proposals. It would provide the president with less than $1 billion to send more resources to the border. President Barack Obama requested $3.7 billion.

The plan includes changes to a 2008 anti-trafficking law that would make it easier to deport children coming from Central America.

The federal government is tracking how many unaccompanied children end up with sponsors in each state. This list will be updated monthly:

Hell, the children in America needs the 3.7 Billion dollars more then these Immigrants, that’s a lot of money to give to these people whether they are children or not, I sympathize with them but they need to go back to where they came from, we got enough problems over here & by the way what kind of parents allow their children to go ANYWHERE without them, unbelievable……

  • its my business

J R Nance – exactly. Secure the borders. Now how these young children are making it all the way to Charlotte has me a bit baffled and concerned. I wonder what the parents told their children as they kissed them off and sent them on their journey.

What the hell kind of parent would send their children, unattended, on a hundreds-of-miles trek across a hostile, murderous country (Mexico), just to jump in front of other lawful immigrants to take advantage of America’s current welfare state? One that followed the executive order of our “president” who proclaimed in 2012 that any Latino child who makes it to American soil can stay (Dream Act). I’m not sure what’s worse: a parent endangering their own children in such a way or a “president” comprising a nation’s security and sovereignty just to entice millions of Latinos to vote Democrat.

1,200 Here in N/C. all ready plus the 9 Million illegal/invaders we are all ready burdened with !!

  • FaithC

They all need to go back. Illegals will bankrupt this state. The ones who are 14, 15,16, 17, check their tattoos. Bet you find gang tats. If you do they need to be deported ASAP!
Most hard working legal Americans have a hard enough time taking care of their own kids, we don’t need to take care of these kids and we do not need the violence they bring with them.

Oblamer can just tack on another billion or 2 for these kids. It not like our money has any value now.

  • Gordon

It would not surprise me one bit to find out down the road that the kids parents will also be getting a free ticket to the USA purely
because their children live there. Use your heads, the South Americans are.

There should be no ‘stuck in limbo’ for these illegal aliens, kids or not. SEND THEM HOME NOW. You really want to see a humanitarian crisis just go see a sick veteran who can’t get an appointment with a VA doctor. Or how about our own sick and hungry Americans who are WORKING POOR and can’t afford to see a doctor. What about our own elderly Americans who have to choose between eating and taking the meds their doctors prescribe, or choose between heat in the winter and eating? What about those folks? OUR OWN! But the dirty rotten mongrel scoundrel wants billions to feed, clothe, medicate, educate and house illegal aliens. Not just no, but H E L L NO!

Get ready NC your tax bill is getting ready to go out the roof. And you are going to be paying for these children for the rest of your and their lives. Our government dangled the carrot and they came to get it. Oh and don’t dare cross them you can not win in court. If in doubt go on fox news and take a look at the border patrol conversation this morning.

wonder how the ‘open borders’ people will feel when these lice, scabie infested kids many of whom also have TB will feel when these ‘poor little kids’ some of whom are already gang members are sitting next to their kids or grandkids this fall

send them back to where they came from…. they are ILLEGAL!!! we go to jail and prison for doin illegal things in America, but, illegal immigrants get a place to live, go to school, and get money to help them… we have a bunch of homeless people trying to get off the streets with no one to help. but have a bunch of dumb parents send their kids across the border, and obama gna give them money to help them! what is wrong with obama??? i havent seen this idiot do anything in office to help us American people, but he sure does enough to help other countries…he shuld of been impeached….. cant stand the man…. send them kids home…. they have no right here unless they do it the right way!!!!

Both parties want their votes. Just wait in see. they will turn their heads like they have done for 30 years and when they finally out number every other race in the US they will make them all legal. The Federal Government wants their votes cause they dont complain about how bad a job they are doing in DC. They will vote whoever gives them the most free stuff

I just don’t see this as a crisis… they are here illegally. Drop them over the boarder and send them on there way home. They came here with nothing, they leave with nothing and they are only allowed to come back by applying for citizenship. I’m sick of this debate among politicians. The citizens of the US are paying taxes so that the government can provide services like protecting our boarders so the boarders need to be secured. Who is to say that terrorists wouldn’t go to Mexico then cross the boarders illegally like others do. They could enter undetected the way things are now and hit targets before we even know they are here. Build a wall, place armed guards on the top and shoot anyone who tries to cross it.

Chucky you are 100% right ,,now if only our government would read this too and take action before its too late
