Fire shuts I-77 tunnel in Virginia

BLAND COUNTY, Va. -- Traffic on Interstate 77 is blocked after a tractor-trailer fire inside the East River Mountain Tunnel in Virginia.

The Bluefield Daily Telegraph reported that no one is believed to be seriously injured, but a photographer saw someone being treated for smoke inhalation.

The Virginia Department of Transportation posted an alert about 5:15 p.m. warning drivers to expect significant delays. Traffic backups were about 6 miles long.

    I was driving south on I-77 and saw the traffic back up yesterday (saturday) and It was over 10 miles long and almost stretched out to the second tunnel north of Wytheville. Hopefully there was no damage done to the tunnel and that the 2 firefighters are ok

    We stopped in Wyethville to get gas. Got caught in the traffic jam, only needed to get to Beckley. Stuck in traffic for 5 1/2 hrs. Friday nignt. Really glad to get to the Super 8 in Beckley at 11:30
