BURKE COUNTY, N.C. — A police pursuit ended when a trooper’s vehicle became stuck in the mud in Burke County Wednesday morning.

State troopers told WSOC that they were involved in a low-speed pursuit around 11 a.m. after the driver of a green Mazda 6 swerved into a front yard to avoid a license checkpoint.

Troopers immediately started chasing the vehicle which led them down a dead end dirt road and into a rugged field where they lost the suspect vehicle after becoming stuck in the mud.

Police do not know why the driver fled.
