OUTER BANKS, N.C. — A loud boom heard off the coast of the Outer Banks on Tuesday night was likely related to Navy training exercises, according to WAVY.

Around 9:30 p.m., WAVY said reports started coming into their newsroom regarding a boom that was heard and felt from Nags Head to Duck.

Coast Guard officials said they contacted all boats in the area and no problems were reported.

The Navy told Coast Guard officials they were conducting some training exercises at a bomb disposal range in the area that includes aircraft.

The Kill Devil Hills Fire Department said the noise was not related to a natural gas leak that occurred around the same time.
