ROCKWELL, N.C. — A 63-year-old man committed suicide Saturday as deputies attempted to arrest him on sex offense charges.

Rowan County Sheriff’s Office deputies went to the residence of Michael Reece Mullis to serve two arrest warrants issued from the Concord Police Department.

Mullis answered the door in sleeping attire. After being advised of warrants for his arrest, he asked if he could go put his shoes on.

One deputy escorted Mullis to the bedroom, where he suddenly made entry into the master bathroom.

The deputy was able to push the door open and saw Mullis with a .357 magnum pistol in his hand. Mullis shot himself in the head and was deceased at the scene.

No other details have been released.
