DAVIDSON COUNTY, N.C. — Smoke poured out of a historic church in Lexington Monday afternoon.

Firefighters responded to the fire at Jersey Baptist Church in Lexington around 12:20 p.m.

Officials say the fire was contained to the steeple and believe it started by a lightning strike.

No one was injured.

Firefighters are working to remove metal from the steeple.

If you have the Midway fire department on site, you’re better off taking care of it yourself with a garden hose and a bucket. Good luck.

    • Bo don't know Shit

There is nothing wrong with midway fire dept, They are just as good as Southmont, Linwood or Lexington, So instead of complaining about everything and everyone, Why don’t you try doing something with your life instead of bitching about others

Hello there bo i am the one in the midway gear in the picture, I am a member of several departments one of which was on the call (not Midway), Thats just my spare gear that i keep with me in case i have to LEAVE MY FAMILY to go back to work, I dont know you or what you do, but if you have any questions or comments please feel free to come by the fire station or call.

What an idiot , what are you 12 . ” if midways on site ” where you at a campground ? It’s very obvious you don’t have a clue what you are talking about . I’m the fireman joe you are referring to with Amanda , and also the partner to the one in the picture , you make me want to puke . But I will be glad , more than happy , very eager for you to come by or call , just anything. and I will show you what I can do with your ” garden hose and bucket !!

Those garden hoses as buckets probably saved the church from a disaster . Not only did they put the fire out but also helped move pews hymnals and other historic items so they wouldn’t be damaged. Thank you for your dedication, hard work, garden hoses, and buckets.

Honestly I feel like you have no idea what you’re talking about. Midway is one of the best fire departments in this county. They are some of the nicest guys ever. You will prollie never understand what they see or hear everyday so until you spend a day at midway please keep your mouth shut.!

Have you ever been in the shoes of ANY of the guys at 86? Bet ya don’t even know any of the cheif’s up there! I personally know the one on C shift! I’m here to Tell you the things they do, is not easy! Going on calls for headaches in the middle of the middle but not one compliant about it. They protect not only themselves but the community. Any one of them would glady go out of the way to help you. I have seen them go next door to help the single woman with her car when it was broken because she called the station and asked. They have some of the fastest response time! They work 24 hours at a time, if they get a call at 3am, and don’t get back to the station until 10am when they are suppose to get off at 8, not one of them would ask for the over time. I know because they had to do it. Wasn’t even their district but stayed and make sure the other stations got things put away. So until you are one of them, or even if you would like to know the job they do I’m sure if you take the time to go to the station and speak to any one of the guys they will gladly tell you their role! I’m pretty dang gone sure that if you have a complaint or an issue with anything they do, the cheif will listen. So instead of running your trap on the news, how about taking your issue up with the source it’s self. Firefighting is not a job, it’s a lifestyle. Have you had to pull dead kids from a house bo? Didn’t think so. It takes a tole on the firefighters because they care and have feelings too!

Amanda, how about taking some basic online English and grammar courses while you are sitting at home all day in your single-wide waiting for fireman Joe to come home from work…. Bo knows firefighting.

Well, Reguardless, the fire departments dispatched to the call and all the others who came to help, did an amazing job putting the fire out and keeping everyone safe. My dad is the chief of Linwood Fire Department and I myself am have been a firefighter at Linwood for 7 years. He said “I couldn’t be more proud of station 41 and all the other departments who showed up to help us. Everyone did one hell of a job today.”
The fact is, Reguardless of what stations name we wear on our back we are out there to help the community and that is more than honorable. Comments like that are uncalled for. We as firefighter in davidson county risk our lives on a daily basis. The least we can ask for is respect.

  • Very Thankful

I have no idea who any of the following persons that were concerned about who or what fire department was on the scene of the church fire. I just want to say thank you for saving my church and would like to take this time to invite all involved in the fire call today to visit our church. We have to services 8:30 am and 11:00 am.
