New app would save consumers on groceries without cutting coupons

A Piedmont entrepreneur is asking for the Triad’s help to fund an app that could transform the way people shop.

Beth Livingston is the founder of maxmyshopping.com.

For the last four years, she has been working on an app that would allow people to save on groceries without cutting a single coupon.

“We’d like an app where you don’t have to go through that trouble, it just alerts you that things that you always buy are on sale,” Livingston said.

The app would give shoppers the lowest sale price on items they buy regularly based on brand or simply based on price. Livingston says that what sets it apart is that it focuses specifically on the three main grocery stores in the Triad.

“And there are other apps that try to do this, but they try to do this and they try to address it on a national level. And you can’t do that because I look at them and the prices are not accurate,” Livingston said.

Shaving down someone’s grocery bill is only part of what the app is designed to do. It also allows people to donate food based on the specific needs of their food bank or food pantry of choice.

“You will be alerted to what they need and when those things are on sale at the same time that you’re alerted when your own things are on sale,” she said.

Having this kind of technology on the market would give food banks and pantries an opportunity to remind people to give year round, especially during summer when donations typically dwindle.

“We need to be able to fill our pantry back up this time of year,” said Cheryl Ledford, Director of Special Events at Greensboro Urban Ministry. “We hope that people will realize that this will be a great opportunity to use their money wisely, be able to benefit us greatly. So, in return it’s a win-win.”

Currently, there is only a demo available for the app. Livingston says she needs funding to build the app.

She has launched a Kickstarter campaign to raise $25,000.

The app doesn’t have an official name yet. Livingston plans to launch a contest where people can name the app.
