Video shows shoppers smashing window to save kids left in hot car

KATY, Texas — Shoppers thought they had no time to spare after they noticed two kids in a hot jeep Monday afternoon — so they took matters into their own hands.

The incident happened outside a strip mall in Katy, Texas.

Some of them tried to smash open the windows to try and free the small boy and girl.

“It was a crazy situation,” said Gabriel Del Valle, who used his cell phone to shoot video of the incident.

Del Valle said he stepped out of his nearby shop after hearing the kids crying out in desperation.

“The kids were in there crying,” said Del Valle. “I mean you would understand. It’s real hot.”

Gabe said one guy used a hammer to shatter the glass.

“And even then they could barely open the doors because there was a child lock on. Kids were in there crying.”

After several minutes, the kids were freed. The children’s mother apparently said she had left them there only temporarily so that she could get a haircut.

But Gabe thinks nothing justifies treating children like this.

“Even a dog can die so imagine a person,” he said.

No one called the police. In fact, Gabe said the mom pleaded with everyone and said she had made a terrible mistake.

Fortunately, it appears the children were unharmed.

A picture of the mom should have been shown! Shame on her! Those children should be placed with people who are more responsible!

Not calling the cops… how are the people around this happening, just as not as responsible. Yeah, they may have freed the children, but, for a haircut she done this, what’s to imagine what she will do next. i understand that accidents happen, but KNOWING you done it, then pleading for mercy… Guess she only has one person to plead mercy to besides her children….

Everyone knows what she did was desperatly wrong, authorities should have been notified, A haircut is not what this woman needs !she needs a serious look at herself that a haircut won’t fix .!

Good for them for busting out the window and helping the children, but shame on them for not calling the cops to begin with. People are taking their kids for granted way to much. A gift that so many fight to have and can’t have are just being treated like garbage. I hope this mother doesn’t make this mistake again, because the outcome might not be so lucky next time.

Personally, smashing the car window was a little too violante. A simple call to the police so they could get the kids out of the car in a more safistacated way, would have done justice. I hope that those people are paying for the damages to the car! Ridiculous.

When children are in a hot car, you don’t have to wait for police. I mean really? Sure, wait for police and in the 5 minutes they took to get there, what if it was those children’s last moments?

    • Tabitha

She can pay for damages to her own car and thank the lord that her booty isn’t sitting in jail right now for killing her kids!

I agree, I would have busted the windows as well. I also would have called the police, how many other times has this “Mother” made such a horrible decision?

  • JulieC

I would have been on the phone with the police as I was busting the window. Now she suffers no lasting consequences. Window repaired and paid for, incident over. Hopefully she learned a lesson and won’t even THINK of doing this again……but I doubt it.

Police wasn’t called? That is stupid. How many other times has she done this? And for a haircut? She knew they were in there, she didn’t “forget” they were in there. And to the one bashing the people for breaking the window, the kids may have been dead by the time the cops got there. No they should not have to pay damage. You best believe I’m going to break a window and get a child to safety first.

  • dennis

yea I would have called police. she may have done stupid things before and this would have been the last. at least it would have been on record if something happened later

  • Juliet

What the hell is wrong with people no one call the POLICE??? Thank whoeve broke the windows but why lets this women go? What about if she do it again and nobody is there to break the windows this times?? Have can we fun this women and report her? Come on I have 2 kids myself I will never do this I prefert not to cup my hair then leave my kids in a car!!!!

  • Ahotcaldwell@yahoo.com

I’m sorry she wouldn’t been able to plea with me. I would of called the cops. To those that helped, shame on you for letting this woman get away with nothing but a broke window
