CHEROKEE, N.C. (WHNS) — There may have been a lot of blue suede shoes at Harrah’s Cherokee Casino Resort on Saturday.

Hundreds of Elvis Presley fans and impersonators gathered to set a new Guinness World Record for the largest gathering of Elvis impersonators.

The record attempt was part of the Ultimate Elvis Tribute Artist Contest at the casino.

Officially, 895 impersonators were counted, breaking the 2010 record of 645. To set the record, the ticketed guests were given free Elvis outfits to wear and sang a chorus of Presley’s Can’t Help Falling In Love.

Saturday’s Cherokee, NC, event was not the only recent large gathering of fans of the King. Many tribute artists are attending Elvis Fest, currently being held in Las Vegas, NV.
