Photo of Steven Spielberg with ‘dead’ dinosaur outrages internet

steven2

Movie director Steven Spielberg is the talk of the internet after a photo of him posing with a ‘dead’ dinosaur went viral.

Internet humorist Jay Branscomb posted the photo on Facebook with the caption:

“Disgraceful photo of recreational hunter happily posing next to a Triceratops he just slaughtered. Please share so the world can name and shame this despicable man.”

The photo was meant to be satire went viral and was shared more than 32,000 times, because so many people believed it was real.

“Steven Spielberg, I’m disappointed in you. I’m not watching any of your movies again ANIMAL KILLER.”

“Disgraceful. No wonder dinosaurs became extinct. Sickos like this kill every last one of them as soon as they are discovered. He should be in prison.”

“He should be killed instead. Beautiful creature innocently living millions of years ago then this monster comes along.”

“I don’t care who he is, he should not have shot that animal.”

The post went up days after Facebook deleted photos from the page of Kendall Jones, a 19-year-old Texas cheerleader and hunter who posted numerous photos of herself posing with a variety of animals that she shot while on safari in Zimbabwe.

And if that wasn’t enough, he followed up the dinosaur photo with a photo of Spielberg posing with a shark and the caption: “Folks, we need your help identifying the vicious shark-killer shown posing with his illegal prey.”

Thats clearly the sick triceratops from Jurassic Park, well he can rest easy knowing he eliminated all the stupid people from his fan base.

“Liberals/Americans/paleontologists are so dumb; they believe everything they see on the Internet!” The irony in that statement nearly had *me* dead on the ground.

“The photo was meant to be satire, went viral, and was shared more than 32,000 times, because so many people believed it was real”

No. I realize it’s hard to read sarcasm, and Internet commenters can be shockingly dumb, but in this case, there is no genuine controversy. There aren’t 32,000 angry dinosaur rights activists out there vowing to boycott Spielberg films. I’m sure a few commenters were actually that stupid, but most of them just had fun “playing along” with the original satire.

You could have asked an interesting question: Is this an appropriate use of satire – normally aimed at skewering foolish people or ideas – to minimize the concerns of those who were offended by the original photos of a girl who killed several vulnerable species in canned hunts? It’s undeniably funny as a simple “he killed a dinosaur! (but everyone knows they’re really extinct)” joke, and the false outrage in the comments is as well. *If* we choose to view it in the larger context of satirizing the genuine outrage over safari hunts, it seems to be poking fun at the wrong side.

There. I have now generated a genuine controversy for you to get excited over. You’re welcome.

The author quoted one of the satirical comments as being genuine: “He should be killed instead. Beautiful creature innocently living millions of years ago then this monster comes along.”

Let’s be fair, it is photo shopped! The Triceratops is real, but not Mr. Spielberg! That should make the dumb people feel better now! :-)

For the love of all that is sane in this world, let you be joking… It is not photoshopped. It is not a real triceratops. It was designed and built by Stan Winston. I’m not saying that Dinosaurs were not real, just saying that one in particular never was.

ATTENTION IDIOTS! you cant kill something that’s already gone extinct. Lets try NOT believing everything we see… How about I post a picture with a “dead” wooly mammoth, lets see how many threats I’ll get!

I hope for our sake that most of those idiotic comments were just meant to be funny. Liberal and conservative both have their uneducated members. This should be funny without being political! Geeeez!!

Bad old Steven, you killed a peaceful vegetarian. Why did you not at least go after a T-Rex with a knife like Davey Crockett would have done.
