Forsyth County officials conduct operation checking on sex offenders

FORSYTH COUNTY, N.C. — Authorities conducted hundreds of unplanned visits to homes this week to check up on more than 500 registered sex offenders in Forsyth County.

“Operation Hammer” was a multi-state operation with local, state and federal law enforcement officers to ensure the compliance of sex offenders and safety of residents, according to deputies.

More than 60 officers worked to verify sex offenders were at their address of record and complying with the conditions of their conviction.

One person was arrested and charged with felonious possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, 14 cases were found that will need more investigation and various items were seized, according to deputies.
