BEAUMONT, Texas (KBMT) — A 4-year-old child is safe after being rescued from being locked inside a safe at a Beaumont business Friday afternoon.

Firefighters with Beaumont Fire-Rescue were called around 12:40 p.m. to a report of a child locked in a safe at La Morenita Meat Market located at 850 S. 11th Street. When they arrived, they asked patrons to leave the store.

Beaumont Fire Captain Earl White said the child was playing in a storeroom and accidentally locked himself inside the safe.

Firefighters used a special saw to cut the hinges of the door and then used the “Jaws of Life” to pry the door open. It took firefighters approximately 30 minutes to free the child from the safe.

The child was checked by Beaumont EMS and found to be okay following his brief ordeal.
