CLEMMONS, N.C. — Walmart is planning to build five Neighborhood Market stores in the Triad over the next two years that could create 475 new jobs.
A company spokesman says the smaller Neighborhood Markets have become popular with its customers for the convenience. The market stores include a grocery store, pharmacy and a few additional items at Walmart prices.
Permit requests show the world’s largest retailer is planning to build two Neighborhood Markets, one on University Parkway and the other on Meadowlark Drive.
A Neighborhood Market is also planned for the former Southern Family Market location in Clemmons and next to the new Sheetz store on South Main Street in Archdale.
Construction is already underway for a store at Quaker Village in Greensboro.
A company spokesman says each Neighborhood Market typically hires around 95 employees, most being full-time positions.
The company is also planning a Super Center off Highway 52 in King.
