Woman in ‘critical condition’ after single-vehicle crash in Elon

Wreck Generic Version

ELON, N.C. — A 21-year-old woman was critically injured when she was involved in a single-vehicle collision Sunday afternoon in Elon.

Police say the wreck happened around 3 p.m. on South Williamson Avenue.

The driver, Devon Noelle Bartholf of West Grove, Pa. was traveling north at a high rate of speed when she lost control of her vehicle. The car left the road and struck a utility pole, coming to rest in a post office parking lot.

Bartholf was transported to Alamance Regional Medical Center, then transferred to UNC-Hospital via Life-flight in critical condition.

Speed and alcohol appear to be contributing factors, police say.

The investigation is ongoing.

Thankfully this irresponsible driver only injured herself. At times, this can be a very busy area with vehicles, pedestrians, and cyclists….it could have been much worse. She’s probably lucky that she crashed right next to the fire station, and across from police department.

She is not irresponsible. I think that comment was very rude. There is no conformation of alcohol being involved an investigation is still going on. Drinking and driving is not a good thing I agree but you still need to be respectful of Devon and her possibly ins angered life.

She was speeding and possibly drinking….please explain how both of those things are not irresponsible behavior? I travel this area daily, with my children in the car, and I know how much worse this could have been. I was not being rude, just honest. I hope your friend makes a full recovery, and hopefully learns from this accident. I’m just thankful that she didn’t injure or kill an innocent person.

The comment’s not rude, it’s honest and it’s what a lot of people would think. I agree with BCA. It’s a really stupid and selfish move to drive drunk. People are thankful that she didn’t hit a bunch of pedestrians, or hit other cars. I wish her a speedy recovery and that she learns her lesson and avoids making the same mistake again.

She was speeding, that has been confirmed. Her blood alchol level has not been determined yet so I would appreciate it if people stop calling her stupid and selfish.

Everyone speeds every once in awhile. So don’t single her out.

I am thankful no one else got hurt. And agree it could have been a lot worse. Can we leave it at that and stop all this.

She was speeding 61 in a 35 mph zone (as reported by The Burlington Times News), while approaching 2 traffic lights, and an area with a high amount of pedestrian traffic, and crosswalks (and possibly under the influence of alcohol). I know you want to defend your friend, but you need to realize that she made a very poor, dangerous choice.

“Everyone speeds every once in a while” – Yes, but don’t downplay the fact that she was going 61 in a 35. Going 10-20 miles over the limit on a freeway is definitely not the same thing as going 60 in a more crowded area with a ton of pedestrians and traffic lights. Even if she wasn’t driving under the influence, the speeding WAS still stupid. I wish her the best, but she made some really idiotic decisions.
