ROCKINGHAM COUNTY, N.C. -- Nearly 200 high school and college students from across the south will be in Rockingham County this week. Homeowners like Cozelle Scales are excited that the volunteers are here to make repairs to her roof.

"It means so much to finally be getting it done because it is something that is overdue," she said.

Working in conjunction with the Dan Valley Baptist Association, World Changers volunteers will do jobs like roof repair, landscaping and building wheelchair ramps. Without the volunteers, Scales says she wouldn't be able to get a new roof.

"People with fixed incomes can't meet every challenge and things you have to do," she said.

Ben Newcomb has been a volunteer with World Changers for three years. He enjoys practicing his faith while giving back to the community.

"I just love it,” he said. “It's a good way to show Christ in a practical way and I get to see the smiles on homeowners’ faces."

This is World Changers fourth visit to Rockingham County. Over the years, over 800 volunteers have participated in 80 repair projects.
