All lanes of US 29 southbound reopen after tobacco truck catches fire in Rockingham Co.
ROCKINGHAM COUNTY, N.C. — All southbound lanes of U.S. 29 have reopened after a tobacco truck caught fire early Monday morning closing both lanes of the highway for a short time.
The wreck was reported around 4:22 a.m. on US 29 just south of Reidsville.
Officials say a tobacco truck was traveling from Danville when it wrecked and caught fire. The driver escaped the cab with an extinguisher, attempted to put out the fire, but was unable to do so.
Fire officials are on the scene.
