Two teens shot to death in Durham in 60 hours

Durham police investigate stabbing death

DURHAM, N.C. — Police say a 19-year-old was shot to death in Durham early Saturday, the city’s second shooting death of a teen in less than 60 hours.

Authorities told WTVD-TV it happened in the yard of a home in the 3,000 block of East Weaver Street around 1:40 a.m.

Police officers found Derek Huggins Jr. shot multiple times when they arrived. He was declared dead at the scene.

No arrests have been made and detectives are working to learn more about what happened.

Authorities said an 18-year-old man was also shot to death outside another home in Durham on Wednesday afternoon. No arrests have been made in that homicide.
