CHARLOTTE, N.C. — New FBI documents show a possible Charlotte connection to the 9/11 attacks.

WSOC-TV reported that emails obtained in a freedom of information request, said a person of interest in the Pentagon bombing on Sept. 11 re-entered the country in February 2011.

The person’s name is redacted, but local FBI officials were alerted that the person listed Charlotte as a point of contact.

They also gave a phone number connected to the furniture industry.

Significant portions of the documents are blacked out because of what the FBI says are national security concerns.

On Sept. 11, 2001, hijackers took over American Airlines Flight 77 and crashed it into the Pentagon.

The plane broke apart and caused a part of the building to collapse.

The crash killed 64 people on board the flight, including the five hijackers and six crew members.

One hundred twenty-five people died in the building.

Charlotte’s FBI office declined to comment on the case or about whether the person of interest is still in the Charlotte area.
