ANAHEIM, Calif. — The parents of an 11-year-old autistic boy were arrested Tuesday night after police allegedly found him living in a cage inside a home in Anaheim, authorities said.

Officers got called out to the 1300 block of Garrett Street at about 6:15 p.m. to help Child Protective Services with an investigation regarding a young boy living inside a cage, according to Lt. Bob Dunn with the Anaheim Police Department.

After talking with the parents, they went inside the home and discovered a fairly large cage — which was described as being “like a dog kennel” — with a mattress inside, Dunn said.

It appeared the parents had been keeping their autistic son inside it, he said.

The boy appeared to have been well cared for otherwise, and did not have any visible injuries, Dunn added.

It was not immediately clear how long the boy had allegedly been kept in the cage.

He was taken into protective services, as were both of his siblings, according to Dunn.

The parents, whose names have not been released, were arrested on suspicion of felony child endangerment and false imprisonment, Dunn said.

As an investigation into the incident continued, police said they would be interviewing other people who lived in the home, including family members and another family who rented a room out of the house.

Child Protective Services was also investigating the boy’s living conditions.

Tbh, if he was otherwise well treated and a shutin case, this isn’t that bad. It’s one of the only ways to be sure he doesn’t hurt himself and for the parents to have some moments where they don’t have to have a constant eye on him.

If he was otherwise maltreated, then fuck this though.

He was well taken care of! Maybe they put him on the cage when 1 parent was gone and maybe the other needed to cook, shower make important calls or something..Special need kids needs constant supervision and not everybody is rich enough to hire an around the clock babysitter. People tend to make things seem to be the worst without getting full details. Media and the people who jump to conclusions to quick…think before you speak!
