82nd Airborne Division Paratrooper dies in motorcycle accident

FORT BRAGG, N.C. — An 82nd Airborne Division Paratrooper was killed in a motorcycle accident near Spring Lake in Cumberland County on Saturday.

Sgt. Tyler Wayne Humphreys, 23, of Houston, Texas, sustained fatal injuries in an accident at the intersection of Elliot Bridge Road and Will Lucas Road.

Humphreys was an infantryman with the 2nd Battalion, 325th Airborne Infantry Regiment, 2nd Brigade Combat Team, with the 82nd Airborne.

“Sgt. Tyler Humpreys was a dedicated Paratrooper and leader who will be sorely missed by everyone in the battalion,” said Lt. Col. Bradley L. Boyd, commander, 2nd Bn., 325th AIR, in a release. “Our thoughts and prayers are with his family and friends during this difficult time.”

Humphreys joined the Army in July 2009. Following training at Fort Benning, Ga., he reported to the 82nd Airborne in August 2010.

He deployed to Haiti from January to March 2010 in support of Operation Unified Response and again to Iraq from May to December 2011 in support of Operation New Dawn.

During his service, he received the Army Commendation Medal with one oak leaf cluster, the Army Good Conduct Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, the Iraq Campaign Medal, the Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, the Humanitarian Service Medal, the Noncommissioned Officer Professional Development Ribbon, the Army Service Ribbon, the Overseas Service Ribbon and the Parachutist Badge.
