HIGH POINT, N.C. — Authorities said a 43-year-old man was hit by a train and killed while walking down the train tracks Sunday morning in High Point.

Police said Lawrence Edward Thomas was fatally hit around 7:50 a.m. at the intersection of Brentwood Street and Kivett Drive. Police said he died at the scene.

Officials said Thomas was walking down the tracks and was hit by the train from the back. He may have not heard the train because of headphones he had on, according to authorities.

This just serves as a reminder that it is illegal and dangerous to walk on train tracks. It is a shame that this happened.

Why can’t people understand it’s suicide walking on tracks with earphones. I don’t understand their reasoning! Sorry for the family.

Lawrence was a great person. He was actually on his way to work to the place that I placed him back in October. It breaks my heart that he was killed this way. He was on his way to his job, while others are enjoying a Sunday morning he was on his way to load trailers for 8.00 an hour. He has the earphones on and if you don’t know if you walk on the outside of the tracks you can hear the vibration but if you walk in the inside you don’t feel it. He always heard his music load and it so unfortunate that this happened. My dear Lawrence rest in peace.. everyone makes mistakes no ones perfect..
