WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. — Two Winston-Salem men are facing charges in connection with the fatal shooting a North Dakota man on Tuesday, authorities told the Winston-Salem Journal.

Dametrian Marcel Welch, 18, has been charged with burglary and conspiracy to commit murder in the death of Jose Luis Alphonso Lopez, The Grand Forks Herald reported Thursday.

Welch was initially arrested on an unrelated warrant for failing to pay fines, the newspaper reported. Welch was being held Friday in the Grand Forks County Jail with no bond allowed.

Authorities also issued a warrant for Delvin Lamont “Squeaky” Shaw, 29, who was charged with burglary and murder. Grand Forks police are searching for Shaw.

Lopez, 24, was shot three times when two men broke into his apartment in Grand Forks, the newspaper reported. Lopez lived there with his fiancée and their two-year-old daughter.

Lopez and his fiancée were sleeping when the men broke in, the newspaper reported. Lopez struggled with the men before he was shot.

Lopez died of his injuries at a Grand Forks hospital.
