Rowan Co. man wanted for killing father commits suicide

SALISBURY, N.C. — A Rowan County that was wanted for murdering his father has killed himself, according to the Rowan County Sheriff’s Office.

On Tuesday around 10:30 a.m., the sheriff’s office was called to check on the welfare of 68-year-old Kenny Smith Sr. at 104 Pineview Circle. Deputies arrived, made entry to the residence and discovered Smith dead inside.

Detectives conducted an investigation and determined that Smith had been murdered.

During the course of the investigation it was determined that Smith’s financial card had been stolen. Smith’s son, Kenny Smith Jr., 44, also resided at the home and was not there. Detectives determined that Smith Jr. was the suspect.

The Rowan County Sheriff’s Office was notified by the Charlotte Police Department Tuesday night that Smith Jr. committed suicide in a Charlotte motel room.
